While some may be the best units around they are also the most expensive to hire and maintain so watch your gold! Also found in taverns are heroes who are unique units with names and even a back-story and specialize in a certain field that will give buffs to your party such as medicine or engineering.
Also their are taverns in cities you may visit which may have mercenaries for hire them.
You can recruit any factions lowest tier troops and work their way up their troop tree as you fight with them, and also keep in mind you are not restricted to one faction so you may have a very diverse army capable of taking on any others with ease. Lastly is a faction added to Warband the Sarranid Sultanate who are based off many other Sultanates in Persia, India, and Arabia and they boast good archers and also great heavy cavalry rivaling the Swadian's knights. Riding in next is the Khergit Khanate who are a completely cavalry based factions with great horse archers and lancers who will dominate an open battlefield but are terrible when taking or holding a settlement on foot and are based on the Mongol Hordes. Up next is are the Vaegirs who specialize in two handed weapons with ferocious axes which makes them great for taking a city but poor at defending and weak against cavalry due to lacking a shield.The Swadians who are roughly based off Western European kingdoms as their heavy cavalry the knight is the best heavy cavalry in the game but their troops are very expensive.
Next up is the Rhodoks who's ranks are made up of spears and crossbows so they are the best at holding an area and fighting cavalry, but they aren't the best on the offensive and lack any cavalry like the Nords and are based off Switzerland and other central European states. The Nords who are based on the Vikings who boast the best infantry in the game and are great at taking and holding settlements with their best unit the Huscarl who can smash down anyone with his ax and giant shield but lack any sort of cavalry.Ī Huscarl rushes into action armed with his ax and round shield. There are six main factions in the game with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Warband is a mix of strategy in which you go around hiring and maintaining your army and lead them in battle, RPG your character levels up in which you can select new skills, attributes, and improve on their skills with certain kinds of weapons, and you meet new people in the world and can develop relations with them and even build up your own faction later in the game, and finally action/adventure as you fight along side your army which is a great gameplay feature, and you wander around the map looking for fights to get into or quests to take on.
