In part 3, I’ll be adding internal 3G to the Aspire One. This adds some padding and provides protection for the hard drive, but makes for an even tighter fit. I used double-sided adhesive foam squares to secure it to the motherboard. It’s a plug-and-play mod – just disconnect the ribbon cable from the SSD and connect it to the hard drive. I happened to have such a hard drive floating around, a 60 GB Samsung HS06THB. Blame the iPod :)Īpparently, there’s just enough space for a thin (5 mm) 1.8″ PATA hard drive under the Aspire One’s motherboard. The Aspire One SSD features the same ZIF connector found on 1.8″ PATA hard drives, which are small, light, efficient, affordable, plentiful, and somewhat shock resistant – all this while providing more storage and better performance than this particular SSD. The CMOS has been reset.Welcome to part 2 of a multi-part post on moddng the Acer Aspire One! Connect both triangles using conductive material, effectively shorting them, and press the power button. A few millimeters to the right are two triangles with a small C1 printed next to them. As you can see from the motherboard, look closely you will notice there are four memory chips on the board nicely aligned next to each other. Now, I was not able to locate the CMOS battery of my netbook that is why I did the hard-reset method.
However, if it does not revive your netbook, then flash it with the latest BIOS which can be downloaded from ACER site. If you're having a BIOS problem, clearing the CMOS might help you with this.
You will see the memory slot on the back of the motherboard. Unscrew the motherboard then carefully lift it up. Remove the SSD connector (bottom right) and LCD connector (top left). You should be able to see the motherboard. Carefully remove this cable before forcing the whole cover to open. Lift the locks for the touch pad but be careful with the touch pad cable.
